Royal Caribbean has suspended its tours to active volcanoes following the White Island eruption.
The cruise line has stopped offering any tours to active volcanoes after its passengers were caught up in a deadly eruption on Whakaari (White Island) on 9 December.
New Zealand police have named 15 people who have died in the incident and two people who are still missing, but Royal Caribbean has not confirmed if any of them were its guests.
The victims include Australians, Americans and New Zealanders.
Four of them were aged under 18, including 15-year-old Ella Hosking, 13-year-old Matthew Hollander, 16-year-old Berend Hollander and 17-year-old Winona Langford, who is still missing.
A spokesperson from Royal Caribbean said: “After the tragic incident this week in New Zealand, we are suspending tours of active volcanoes.”
New Zealand police are still searching along the island’s shoreline, in the water, and from the air using drones for two people who went missing in the eruption.
GNS Science report that the privately owned volcano island is still at risk of a further eruption.
“As the magma rises, it releases a lot of hot gases, which work their way to the surface,” said Graham Leonard, GNS Science volcanologist. “All this means the risk of an eruption continues.”
