Gili Lankanfushi will remain “closed until further notice” following the fire which tore through the luxury Maldives resort last week.
The Gili family took to Twitter over the weekend to thank well wishers for their “love, concern and encouragement” following the blaze.
It has also detailed options available to guests who were due to stay at the resort, including the option to hold bookings or get a refund.
“We understand Gili Lankanfushi holds a special place in many of your hearts and, while there is a challenging recovery period ahead, we are confident about the island’s bright future and look forward to welcoming you back at the earliest opportunity.”
Guests and staff were evacuated from the luxury resort after the fire broke out at around 11pm local time on January 2, destroying several of its over-water villas.
According to the Maldives National Defence Force, strong winds helped the fire spread quickly through the resort’s thatched properties. The cause remains unknown.
The resort quickly confirmed all guests and staff had been accounted for, and alternative accommodation arranged.
In an update posted on Saturday, the resort said: “The Gili family regret to inform you that we are temporarily closed till further notice due to the recent fire incident. Thank you so much to all for your love, concern, and encouragement during this difficult time. We sincerely apologies for the inconvenience caused.
“During our closure, we will be extending three alternative options to guests for future bookings. For guests who would like to proceed with their visit, we will assist in every way possible to arrange alternative accommodation.
"For guests who wish to withdraw their booking, we will proceed with a full refund. For guests who wish to visit Gili Lankanfushi, we will hold your booking till further notice when the resort reopens.”
