Wizz Air, the Hungarian budget airline, is to enter the market at Gatwick from June.
The carrier will launch Gatwick’s only connection to Bucharest on June 18, making the West Sussex airport its ninth in the UK. One-way fares to the Romanian capital will be from £28.49.
Wizz Air, which is quoted on the London Stock Exchange, flies to 14 countries from the UK with 76 routes and this year as a whole it will carry 20 million passengers.
Wizz Air also flies to Bucharest from Luton. Owain Jones, the airline’s chief corporate officer said: “With our new Gatwick service starting in June, we offer four flights a day between London and Bucharest from two airports and we are the only airline to have direct service to Bucharest every day from both north and south London.”
