Drunken Jet2.com passenger jailed for onboard behaviour

A drunk and disruptive woman on a Jet2.com flight has been jailed for six months, as well as being banned for life by the airline.

The carrier had to call police to meet a flight from Tenerife to East Midlands in January 2018 due to the behaviour of Kiran Jagdev.

Jet2.com said Jagdev, from Leicester, had “confronted and abused other customers, and even kicked the seat of a child” during the flight.

“Despite the intervention of an off-duty police officer, our highly-trained crew were left with no choice other than to call for police assistance upon arrival,” said the airline in a statement about the case at Leicester crown court.

Sentencing Jagdev, judge Philip Head said: “This demands a deterrent sentence so people who travel by air and get drunk will know there are consequences.”

Phil Ward, Jet2.com’s managing director, said the case showed the need for the introduction of “measures to better control the sale and consumption of alcohol purchased at airports”.

“I would like to pay tribute to both our crew and the police for the way they handled this incident,” added Ward.

“I can assure customers that as a family-friendly airline we will not under any circumstances tolerate this behaviour, and Ms Jagdev has been banned from flying with Jet2.com for life.”
