EasyJet is reported to have submitted a new submission of interest to acquire Alitalia.
The Italian low-cost carrier has been under special administration since last year.
An initial April 30 deadline for bids was extended to Oct 31 (Wednesday) with the airline being supported with a bridge loan.
State-appointed administrators for the airline confirmed that two binding bids had been received for Alitalia, together with one expression of interest, without saying who they were from, Bloomberg reports.
Italian economic development minister and deputy Prime Minister Luigi Di Maio said yesterday that “finding an industrial partner is going to be key.”
EasyJet, who along with Lufthansa and Wizz Air, had all submitted previous submitted interest told The Telegraph on Wednesday evening (October 31) it had made its latest submission “in response to the new government’s ongoing sales process”.
No further details of easyJet’s interest were disclosed and the airline said “there is no certainty at this stage that any transaction will proceed”.
