A man has been fined £2,000 for flying a model aircraft near Heathrow airport on Christmas Eve.
George Rusu, 38, of Blunts Avenue, West Drayton, entered a guilty plea at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (January 22) and subsequently fined as well as ordered to pay costs of £85 and a £200 victim surcharge.
The court also ordered that his model aircraft be destroyed. Rusu was guilty of “contravening the Air Navigation Order 2016”.
At about 3pm on Monday, December 24, police officers on patrol in Sipson Way, West Drayton, spotted Rusu flying the fixed wing, model aircraft. They arrested him and later that day charged him with flying an unmanned aircraft without permission of air traffic control.
