Wizz Air to open Krakow base; adds new UK routes

The budget carrier has announced it will base two Airbus A321 aircraft in Poland’s second city, the first arriving in May and the second in September.

It will operate 12 new routes across nine countries from Krakow, including flights to and from Luton and Doncaster Sheffield starting April 2019.

One-way fares lead in from £17.99. The base is Wizz’s fifth in Poland and 26th in total.

It will also serve Kyiv, Bari, Catania, Larnaca, Nice, Turku, Billund, Kharkiv, Oslo and Kutaisi.

The additions grow Wizz’s ex-UK network to 85 routes, including 54 from Luton and 12 from Doncaster Sheffield.

Stephen Jones, Wizz Air executive vice-president and deputy chief executive, said the announcement “underlined Wizz’s commitment” to its UK and Polish markets, its first flight launch in 2004 from Luton to Katowice.

“We chose Krakow to be our newest base in Poland as we see the potential and the demand for low cost travel in this city which is a popular tourist destination as well as a rapidly developing business hub,” Jones added.
