Cardiff airport is targeting a 31% capacity increase to its key Spanish destinations for summer 2016.
Speaking 100 days into the role, chairman Roger Lewis said the airport will work with Vueling to provide 30,000 additional seats during the peak season.
The talks come as the airport targets “significant” year-on-year growth in passenger numbers and plans to refurbish its departure lounge.
It is also introducing a number of other new flights with Flybe offering a number of new destinations while Thomas Cook has introduced a new flight to Cancun.
Thomson is offering cruise flights in Dubai while talks are being held with P&O to develop cruise flights to the Caribbean.
Lewis said the future plans come following a strong 2015 which saw passenger numbers grow 13% year on year to 1.16 million with December numbers up 52%.
He added: “I am firmly of the opinion that Cardiff Airport can play a pivotal role in this sector in our locality as a strategic resource for Wales and as a driver of prosperity and economic growth in the region.
“For Cardiff Airport to achieve its full potential and to benefit all involved, we need a unity of purpose across the various political and business agendas to align our respective strategies both in Wales and the UK, and I will do all I can to assist this.”
