Thomas Cook Airlines is facing potential disruption after its pilots voted to strike.
More than 400 of the airline’s 560 pilots are members of the British Airline Pilots’ Association (Balpa) and 80% voted to strike on Friday, The Times reported.
It is understood that pilots are upset about being offered a 1.5% pay rise on top of their automatic increase of 1.8% and are instead demanding a 10.7% increase.
Pilots are also demanding they fly in business class when travelling to airports to connect with flights.
Balpa’s executive committee will now work today to discuss giving final approval for the strike which sources say could begin next month.
The Thomas Cook’s summer schedule operates to both long and short-haul destinations, including North America, the Caribbean and Europe.
While a Balpa spokeswoman declined to speak to the paper, a Thomas Cook Airlines spokesman said: “It is in everyone’s interest to reach a settlement, which is why we have put forward what we believe to be a very fair offer in what is a competitive market.
“We are working hard with Balpa’s representatives to find a way forward.”
