Prosecutors to release MH17 missile site findings

A team of prosecutors investigating Malaysia Airlines flight MH17 - which was downed over Ukraine – will release its findings today.

Malaysia Airlines 777

The Dutch-led group has been collecting evidence for a potential criminal trial after 298 people onboard the aircraft were killed when it broke apart in mid-air while flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur in 2014.

An earlier inquiry by the Dutch Safety Board concluded that a Russian-made missile had struck the Boeing 777.

This new inquiry, which includes prosecutors from Australia, Belgium, Malaysia and Ukraine, will pinpoint where the missile was fired from, but will stop short of naming who launched it.

Pro-Russian rebels have been blamed by the Ukrainian government and Western officials for shooting down the plane, BBC News reports.

Ukraine’s military were locked in heavy fighting with pro-Russian separatists in the region at the time of the incident.
