The 100-passenger Celebrity Flora will feature “anchorless” technology and will be one of the “most energy-efficient ship of its size” sailing in the archipelago off the Pacific coast of South America.
Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and chief executive of Celebrity Cruises, said: “Celebrity Flora marks another example of our revolutionary ship design by allowing the destination and its environment to influence every decision we’ve made.
“From the luxurious all-suite accommodations to industry-first, eco-friendly innovations, we’ve created a ship that brings a new level of luxury, sustainability and natural exploration to the region.”
Celebrity Flora, which will sail from Baltra in the Galapagos year-round, is due to make its first sailing on May 26, 2019, and will operate two seven-night itineraries that can be combined with pre and post-cruise tours in the Ecuadoran capital Quito and Machu Picchu in Peru.
The ship will include innovations such as advanced propulsion system, hull configuration and specially designed diesel engines, which are set to reduce fuel consumption and emission by 15%.
Celebrity Flora will also be able to use the latest technology to stay in position without physically anchoring and damaging the sea bed.
The ship’s suites will include oversized bathrooms, while two penthouse suites will be the biggest operating in the Galapagos with both indoor and outdoor living areas.
The Marina will also be able to accommodate up to three Zodiac exploration boats, while passengers can relax in public areas such as the Sunset Lounge, The Vista and the Observatory with its floor-to-ceiling glass windows. Dining options will include the Seaside Restaurant and the Ocean Grill.
Onboard presentations will be given on the destination, wildlife and environmental projects, and there will also be a Stargazing Platform.
Enrique Ponce de Leon, Ecuador’s minister of tourism, added: “We are very pleased with the announcement of Celebrity Cruises’ decision to build a cruise vessel with cutting-edge technology, designed specifically to operate around our wonderful islands.”
