Staff working in Tui’s call centre in Luton could be facing redundancy after they were told their roles were being moved to Swansea.
Around 60 full-time employees in the contact centre will be affected by the proposed change with 50 staff roles being relocated to South Wales, alongside another two posts that are currently vacant.
Another eight staff will continue to be based at Tui’s headquarters in Luton but will be switched to the retail operations department.
Tui confirmed to TTG that 50 full-time employees were at “risk of redundancy” out of the 1,900 staff working at the Luton HQ.
A Tui spokesperson said: “We are sorry to confirm that we are currently in a consultation period with members of our contact centre team based in Luton.
“The proposed changes are not a reflection of the great work they do to serve our customers. It is the result of research, consideration and discussion about the future of how Tui UK and Ireland communicates with customers.
“We have offered our colleagues affected by this consultation the option to relocate to Swansea to join our contact centre team based there. Alternatively we are working closely with the Luton-based team to identify other suitable opportunities within the business.”
Staff based at the Luton contact centre have been “encouraged” to take redundancy, according to a report in the Luton News.
Tui said it was planning to increase call centre staff based in Swansea from 281 to 391 full-time advisors, including the 52 posts being relocated from Luton and 58 new jobs.
