Operations at Glasgow airport have resumed after a security incident on an inbound flight forced the airport to shut its runway for around 20 minutes on Tuesday morning (30 April).
The airport temporarily suspended operations at around 10.25am “due to an incident declared on an inbound flight”, said the airport in a tweet, which also confirmed the emergency services were in attendance.
However, the airport was quick to issue updates to passengers informing them operations were returning to normal by around 10.50am.
A Glasgow airport spokesperson said: “At 10.25am, emergency services attended an arriving easyJet flight from Gatwick following reports of a security alert on board.
"Operations were temporarily suspended until the incident was stood down and normal operations resumed after 22 minutes.”
Reuters senior producer, who was aboard the aircraft, tweeted: "Security incident at #glasgowairport – seems to be related to our plane – we are all now being moved via bus for extra checks."
She added: "All on EasyJet EZY883 now being held at an empty gate for checks and searches – no filming allowed. Everyone – police and passengers – very relaxed."
An easyJet spokesperson said: “easyJet can confirm that passengers on flight EZY883 from London Gatwick to Glasgow were delayed disembarking on arrival in Glasgow, purely as a precaution, due to additional security checks. The passengers have been disembarked and taken into the terminal.
"The safety and security of its passengers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority and we would like to thank passengers for their understanding.”
