A British backpacker who claims to have been held against her will while on a car trip in Australia, said she was rescued by her father after she text him her location.
The 20-year-old had agreed to ride with a man from her hostel in south-east Queenslands to Brisbane, but he drove in the opposite direction and refused to let her out, the BBC reported.
She then told her dad to contact police, who intercepted them at Gympie some 55 miles from the hostel.
The 22-year-old Swedish driver was arrested and taken to hospital for medical treatment, but the BBC said he would not face charges as the British backpacker had withdrawn her complaint against him.
She told local media she had initially agreed to go on the road trip as she was worried about his well-being, but became fearful when he changed the plan and said they should head to North Queensland instead.
She repeatedly text her father with her location and urged him to contact Australian police, telling him she had been “taken by a man… please hurry”.
